Over the weekend a new amenity – either an art installation or a new public convenience – has appeared on the A420 Lawrence Hill in east Bristol.
If the latter, it’s conveniently located next to the site of Lawrence Hill’s original Victorian public lavatories, sadly demolished some years ago by Bristol City Council and the site sold off to developers.
Continuing with the theme of convenience, if it is a new public lavatory – whether provided at public expense or by the private sector – it will no doubt come as a relief to the thousands of commuters from Kingswood, Hanham and other parts of South Gloucestershire who clog up the A420 inbound on weekday mornings and outbound on weekday evenings respectively.
However, I suspect it is the work of east Bristol’s shadowy network of fly-tippers, in which case it needs reporting to Bristol City Council. 🙂
I’m going for art installation. I saw something very similar in the Tate Modern years ago http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/duchamp-fountain-t07573 . I can only guess we are getting our own art trail of sorts here in Lawrence Hill/Easton given Shaun the Sheep hasn’t been allowed to stray to these parts.
Perhaps these unusual pieces can be collected up to display at “Make Sunday Special” when it comes to Stapleton Rd later this summer. It would be a useful showcase of what goes on in the local area and perhaps the Mayor could judge a competition with them all. I shall leave it to your discretion as to the categories (although if possible I would like special mention of the object “found closest to the tip”) #tidyBS5
Thanks for your comment, Natalie.
I think you could be correct about the toilet pan being a valuable work of art Ă la Duchamp, as evidenced by its disappearance yesterday evening when I emerged from the pub in a nearby street.
I love the idea about “Make Sunday Special”. We Tidy BS5 campaigners have applied for a stall at the event. Do pop along and see us.
